London is having a record-breaking year. If you plan to visit in the late summer or fall, you may want to go ahead and book before you miss your chance. So what’s causing the boom in London travel? Here’s what we think:
The British Pound remains extraordinarily weak compared to the dollar. Hotels that cost $600 one year ago now cost around $450/night.
Everyone Loves London and avid travelers will keep coming back. There’s always something new to do and see, such as our Shoreditch Walking Tour or the phenomenal exhibits at Tate Modern, The V&A, British Museum and more.
London’s Neighborhoods are unlike any other and filled with history. Some of the most fun to wander right now are Marylebone, Bloomsbury, Chelsea, Pimlico and Kensington.
The Food Scene is fabulous and so affordable. Many chefs from Michelin Star kitchens have opened incredible gastropubs, and some of the newer Michelin Star restaurants are outstanding experiences with better value.
The earlier you book, the better the value – smart travelers are taking advantage of this.
If you are thinking about traveling to London this year, consider some of our favorite annually inspected Celebrated Hotels below. Each of these properties offers exceptional experiences and values, whether you prefer to stay in central London or in one of Europe’s most unique and luxurious country hotels.
The Goring
Located on a quiet Belgravia street steps from Buckingham Palace, The Goring is one of Europe’s most celebrated jewels. Few properties can match the sense of place here. In fact, this is the only hotel in London to have received a Royal Warrant from HM The Queen. Nestled in one of London’s thriving neighborhoods with plenty of exciting new dining and shopping options, the location of The Goring can’t be beat. It’s an easy to walk to both Mayfair and Knightsbridge (and one of our favorite pubs in London, The Grenadier). It’s a wonderful central location for touring London’s essential highlights.
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention The Goring’s exceptional team. “Big John” and the concierge team are brilliant. Do not miss a meal in their Michelin Starred restaurant. Celebrated guests receive a complimentary cocktail to enjoy in the garden (or if the rain turns up, guests can relocate to The Goring’s Lounge & Bar).
The Kensington
In an era when authenticity rules, South Kensington is a fabulous base for a London stay. The Kensington Hotel is surrounded by restaurants and bars frequented by locals. For families this is an especially dreamy location as the property is steps from the Science Museum, Natural History Museum, Kensington Palace, Hyde Park, Harrod’s and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Families will also love the hotel’s room configurations as many can connect, and the hotel also offers some of London’s most upscale and best value 2-bedroom suite options.
Celebrated guests can now take advantage of their current special: a 15% discount of the Best Available Rate on Luxury and Signature Suites for stays July 17-September 30. And don’t forget our Celebrated Perk: full breakfast and complimentary afternoon tea for two for stays of three or more nights. As with any Celebrated Hotel, WiFi is free and breakfast is included.
Cliveden
Cliveden is one of the United Kingdom’s most palatial stately homes. The former home of Lady Astor, tens of millions of dollars have been invested in a massive update to this 5-star hotel. We are excited about the incredible spa that opens in July after a significant investment. This will be a great addition to the property which also has an outdoor pool (made famous in the Profumo Affair which brought down an English government in 1961). Cliveden sits on the River Thames, offering a town and country experience in London. Guests can easily explore the famous nearby gardens and Windsor Castle. Celebrated guests receive full English breakfast, upgrade at time of booking (Subject to availability), a private historic tour of the house, and welcome half bottle of Champagne.
